Our Most Asked Question | Where We Found Navy

Navy is so cute, we want a puppy just like her. Where did you find Navy? Can you please forward your breeder information? What breeder is Navy from?

We have received hundreds (yes hundreds) of different versions of this question. Before we get started, please know that we are not the type of people to attempt to withhold information or purposely ignore these questions.

Here is the dirty truth, we LOVE our breeder and we really appreciate the professional relationship we have with her. Quite honestly, we hope to purchase another Cardigan Corgi from her someday. One of our biggest fears is that someone will use our name as a reference to our breeder and potentially tarnish our relationship. Especially because the majority of the messages we receive regarding Navy’s breeder are rather rude, unprofessional, insincere, and a little demanding! Because of this, we decided that we would only refer those people we know personally to our breeder. (Kind of like how we would only refer someone we know personally for a job).

Okay, we know we did not quite answer your questions. No worries! We hope that you will still continue to read through this post where we explain the steps we took in order to find our Navy.

Step 1: So you think you want a Cardigan Corgi?

The first step is to do your research. And no, research is not direct messaging all your favorite corgis on Instagram or Pintresting your dream puppy! It is important to remember that just because a dog looks cute or irresistible in photos, the breed may not be a match for you. (Believe us, Navy is a handful). An excellent place to start researching different breeds is the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) website. The AKC does an awesome job of explaining Cardigan Corgis’ personality, temperament, energy level, trainability, etc.

Step 2: So you still want a Cardigan Corgi? Great!

Sounds like a match made in heaven right? So the next step is to start researching reputable breeders and how to approach them. My friend Tibby the Corgi has an amazing three part blog post about what to look for in responsible breeders and what questions to ask them. I highly recommend reading through Tibby’s tips!

Step 3: Check with the good ol’ AKC

The AKC recommends that puppy buyers begin their search process by contacting an AKC Parent Club. If you live in the states, you will want to reach out to the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America. Navy’s breeder is listed on this website! Or, if you are interested in rescuing a Cardigan Corgi, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi National Rescue Trust (CWCNRT) is a great option. CWCNRT is an amazing organization that works to ensure permanent, loving homes for purebred Cardigan Corgis.

Step 4: And they lived happily ever after

In order to ensure a long and happy relationship with a purebred dog, you should purchase from a responsible breeder. It is important to remember that the decision to purchase a puppy should not happen overnight. We searched for almost two years and spoke to four different breeders before we found Navy. Believe us, she was well worth the wait.

Happy searching!

Cheers,

Alex, Zach, and Navy
