A Full Review of Valo Apartments | Dog-Friendly DC Living

ICYMI, we’re moving! Yes, you heard that right, in the next few weeks we are packing up our little apartment and moving to the suburbs. As we’ve almost exhausted our search for a single family home with a yard, Zach and I sat down and decided we need to find a backup plan. Our lease for our current apartment is up in October, and we needed to find a better, truly dog-friendly apartment building to live at for another year.

Valo Apartments, the brand new luxury apartment building in Southwest Washington, DC invited us to take a tour of their building and host a yappy hour party for our friends. The timing could not have been more perfect. We (of course) took them up on their offer to tour their property, check out the area some more, and take a look at their floor plans.

Rental units in Washington, DC are notorious for placing a high price tag per square foot on apartments. We were pleasantly surprised to see the floor plans at Valo start at $1850, plus, they currently have a number of awesome deals when you sign a lease.

We loved how open and functional the floor plans were. The kitchens are large and complete with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and tile backsplashes — like straight out of our Pinterest board. We also loved the spacious mudroom (with full-sized washers and dryers!) and large walk-in closet–perfect for storing all Navy and Duke’s toys and leashes!

AMENITIES

Luxury expands further outside your apartment at the Valo community. The Valo spared no expense for their residents’ amenities. The Valo has not one, not two, but three resident lounges. At Valo you can enjoy a full cyber lounge and complimentary WiFi in the lobby.

There is also a rooftop pool, sundeck, fire pit, and grilling station with fabulous views of the Nationals Park, Audi Field, and the Capitol building. Valo’s 24-hour fitness center is equipped with top of the line machines, weights, and Peloton bikes. Check out Valo’s website for a full list of their amenities!

PET-FRIENDLY PERKS

Another amazing perk of the Valo Apartments? They are so pet-friendly! If you’ve read some of our previous blog posts, you’d know being truly pet-friendly means so much more than having a jar of dog treats in the lobby, or a waste bag dispenser outside–Valo has BOTH these things–it means having a few extra amenities for your pup!

Valo Apartments have a gorgeous ⅓ acre court yard. For the Washington, DC area, a courtyard this size is almost unheard of. It is complete with benches and patio tables, as well as a dog run. Yes, you heard me correctly, there is a dog run on site!

But of course, no truly pet-friendly apartment building is complete without a pet spa. We actually didn’t get a chance to visit the spa, but from what I am told, it gorgeous. And let me tell you, having a pet spa on site is such a fabulous perk. You don’t have to worry about fido messing up your bathroom with their mud or soapy shedding, and you won’t take the horrid wet dog smell home with you.

We had the amazing opportunity to host a yappy hour for our friends at Valo. We learned that Valo even hosts their own yappy hour parties for resident dogs–lucky pups!

LOCATION

Valo is located in a prime location of DC. Not only is there plenty to do in the Wharf and Navy Yard, you are within walking distance or a short Uber ride from other fun neighborhoods in DC. The community is also just a half mile walk from the new Audi Field where DC United plays! At the Valo you are a short walk from Waterfront Metro, Navy Yard Metro, and the Wharf Metro stations.

DOG-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES IN SOUTHWEST DC

Southwest Washington, DC is one of our favorite places to spend time in. Between the Wharf, Navy Yard, and downtown DC, you will never run out of amazing restaurants, bars, shops, and things to do with your dog. Here are a few of our favorites, all within a short walk of Valo Apartments:

  • Agua 301 (restaurant)
  • Dacha Navy Yard (biergarten)
  • Bluejacket (restaurant)
  • Bardo Beer (brewery)
  • Lansburgh Dog Park
  • Nationals Park
  • The Salt Line (restaurant)

Thank you to Valo Apartments for giving us an amazing tour of their building and collaborating with  to host a Yappy Hour party for our friends. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
