The Ultimate Summer Bucket List For Your Dog

Summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, but I think summer truly starts after Memorial Day. Now that Memorial Day weekend came and went, we are more than ready to start enjoying this sunny season with Navy and Duke!

At the beginning of the year, we made some pretty ambitious travel goals that I don’t think we will come close to accomplishing now that we have puppy Duke. But one of my goals this summer is to try to cross a few of our goals for 2019 off our list this summer season.

Make this summer the best one yet with our summer-fun bucket list ideas to do with your dog! Feel free to use any of ours for your own summer bucket list:

1. Swim, swim, and swim some more!

Summer hasn’t even started yet and it is so incredibly hot. Lucky for us, NAvy + Duke’s grandparents live close by and they have a pool for the pups to jump in and cool off. Navy rarely jumps in on her own, but she enjoys floating around on the inflatables!

2. Go camping

Earlier this spring “glamped” for the first time with Getaway House. I really want to get outdoors and try to glamp (maybe camp) again.

3. Water activities!

We took Navy kayaking with us for the first time last season and she absolutely loved it. Maybe we will take her and Duke kayaking with us in the Outer Banks this year. I also really want to try paddle boarding with the two of them!

4. Visit a lake

This summer I would love to find a lake somewhat local to DC to spend the day at. I think the perfect lake day would start with a walk around the lake, a picnic lunch, and end with a swim. Do you know of any dog-friendly lakes in the DC area?

5. Go to a festival

I would love to take Navy (maybe Duke) to some sort of festival this summer. I am going to keep my eye out for some fun local festivals. If you know of any pet-friendly festivals in the area, please let us know!

6. Be a tourist for the day

Something Zach and I have talked about doing one of these weekends is to be a tourist in DC for the day. I think it would be really fun to visit a few places we’ve never been before. Plus I know we are extremely overdue in posting about our favorite places to visit with Navy and Duke in DC.

7. Stay in a unique Airbnb

Who doesn’t want to spend the night in a treehouse, houseboat, yurt, or on an alpaca farm?! I have always wanted to stay in a unique Airbnb and this summer I am really hoping we can make it happen.

8. Watch the sunset

Another summer bucket list must! I’d love to travel somewhere fun to watch the sunset with Zach and the pups. Maybe we will pack a picnic too…with wine. 😉

9. Get an ice cream cone … or two

We love ice cream, need we say more?

10. Visit a new dog park

If I am being completely honest, I am not the biggest fan of dog parks. But since we do not have a yard of our own yet, I like to find smaller, lesser visited parks to allow the pups to stretch their legs and play outdoors.

11. Go to the beach

The ocean has and always will be my happy place. No summer bucket list is complete without a visit to the beach! Normally our family takes a trip to the Outer Banks over the 4th of July, but this year we moved the trip to the end of August. Hopefully the weather will be slightly cooler for the dogs!

Later this week we leave for Orlando with Navy to check off a few of our summer bucket list items in that destination. Stay tuned for updates and follow along on our Instagram!
