Personalizing Our Dog’s Food With Tailored® | Review Part 1

We get this question pretty frequently – why do we feed Duke and Navy differently? In short, every dog is different. With that, dogs have unique needs based on their stage in life, activity level, food tolerances, gender, and so much more.

We struggled to find a food that worked best for Navy’s needs, and after a recent trip to the vet for Duke, we realized we would need to find something that better suited his needs as well.

Personalizing Duke’s Food with Tailored®

Being on social media for our dogs, we’ve heard of pet food companies that allow you to personalize your dog’s food. We’ve always been interested in them, but honestly the high price tag just didn’t seem worth it to us. Then we were introduced to Tailored®; this one of the reasons why Tailored is different. Unlike other personalized pet foods on the market, Tailored is competitively priced with specialty retail brands. Actually, Tailored was more affordable than what we were currently feeding Duke! Truthfully, this is what drove us to make the switch.

We’ve touched on this before on our blog and through our social media posts, but we want our dogs to live their absolute best lives with us as long as they can. We want to make sure that what we are feeding them works for their unique needs and will nourish them to live a long healthy life.

Getting to Know Tailored

Before we try any new brand for our dogs (especially when it comes to food), we like to get to know the brand a little better. We learned that Tailored was founded by a group of pet nutrition experts and pet parents who spent years studying pet health and nutrition. Together, they developed Tailored® – a company that allowed pet parents to personalize recipes and ship those recipes quickly to your door, all at a fair price.

We also learned that as a company, Tailored® is committed to bettering the planet. They partnered with TerraCycle to make their pet food bags recyclable and include a biodegradable scoop with your first order.

Safety is a priority for Tailored®, especially food safety. Each recipe is safely cooked in the United States. The proteins included are high-quality, the vegetables and fruits are farm-grown, and the legumes included in recipes are packed with protein and fiber. Tailored® ensures their recipes meet or exceed the strictest food safety procedures to help you feel confident about feeding Tailored® to your pups.

How Tailored® Works

Sounds good right? Now let’s talk about how it all works. I’ll admit it, I have an incredibly short attention span. Both Zach and I are so busy with our day to day, we cannot be bothered with things that require too much of our time and effort. I was surprised and pleased with how incredibly simple Tailored made things. I was able to get started and place our order in the three easy steps, all from my cell phone.

  1. Take a short quiz. Head over to TailoredPet.com and answer a series of questions about your pet. You know your dog best. You’ll be asked for things like your pet’s name, gender, breed, weight, health concerns and food sensitivities.
  2. Discover a recipe perfect for your pup. Based on your selections in the quiz, you’ll receive a personalized recipe tailored to each pet’s specific needs. You will also be provided with personalized feeding instructions.
  3. Place your order. Before placing your order you will have the option to choose quantity and frequency of delivery. You can place a one time order, or opt for a subscription that can be changed or cancelled at any time. After you choose, your pet’s recipe ships fast and free! Have any questions along the way? Ask one of Tailored’s experts for more guidance.

What’s in a Tailored® Box + First Impressions

Delivery day! We were pleasantly surprised that our package arrived on the Tuesday after we placed our order (we placed it on a Friday). Immediately after we placed our order on Tailored’s website, we received an email with more information about what to expect. The next day, we were told our recipe was in the mail. I definitely appreciated this as we were heading out of town the next weekend and wanted to start transitioning Duke to his new recipe as soon as possible.

Our box was pretty heavy, then again we did order a 36 pound bag of food…We were slightly overwhelmed with how adorable the box was that our food arrived in. I appreciated that our order was divided into four 9 pound bags, rather than one large bag. We keep Duke’s kibble in a separate container but don’t want to run the risk of something spoiling if left open for too long.

I really appreciated that Tailored® gave us clear, easy to follow directions with how to transition Duke from his current food to his new recipe. We tend to err on the side of caution and really like to take our time when altering his diet.

I am always a little nervous when introducing new food to our dogs. If you’ve followed us for a while you’d know that Navy is the world’s pickiest dog and we wasted so much money on food she wouldn’t touch after her first bowl. As Duke has gotten older, he has gotten picky with his food as well. We were so excited to learn that Tailored® has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If your pup doesn’t like their recipe, their pet nutrition experts will help you get it right or you get your money back. Easy enough right?

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for our next blog post in a few weeks where we fully break down and review Duke’s personalized recipe. If you have any questions at all about our experience with Tailored®, feel free to leave a comment below.

How should a puppy exercise? Should you exercise your puppy in a specific manner? How much exercise is too much? Are you giving your puppy enough exercise? This is a Catch-22 situation. Puppies in general do not get enough exercise.
