Dog-Friendly Staycation Review: Red Roof Inn Alexandria, Virginia

This post is sponsored by BabbleBoxx on behalf of Red Roof. All thoughts and opinions are our own.

Last weekend we decided to take a spontaneous overnight trip to Alexandria, Virginia, with our dogs, Navy and Duke. Thanks to Red Roof, we were able to plan our mini-staycation with ease. The best part? Red Roof is not only a pre-friendly hotel, but pets stay free at Red Roof!

With over 660 properties across the U.S. — and a few international properties in Brazil and Japan — many Red Roof locations are close to popular sites and attractions. So whether you are planning a cross-country road trip or looking to get away with family or friends, Red Roof offers travelers (especially those traveling with pets!) a high-quality experience at an affordable price.

Suppose you’ve followed us for a while on Instagram or even here on our blog. In that case, you might remember that we used to live just outside Washington, DC, in the Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia areas. While we love owning our home in the suburbs, and Navy and Duke certainly enjoy having a yard to play in, we miss being minutes away from our Nation’s Capital.

We booked a one-night stay at Red Roof Inn PLUS+ in Alexandria, Virginia. The location could not be more perfect. We were less than 10 minutes away from Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and National Harbor, Maryland. Unfortunately, we couldn’t walk to any of these sites from the property. Still, Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Inn Alexandria offers free parking, so you can easily hop in your car and drive to several locations in the area.

We were able to quickly and easily check in with no issues. The staff was friendly and helpful and answered all of our questions.

Our room was on the first floor — perfect for the dogs! I was pleasantly surprised at the size of our room. Our room was complete with a king bed to sleep on, a big flat-screen TV, a large desk (perfect for those who need to work on the go!), a roomy bathroom, a mini-fridge and a microwave.

One thing we look for wherever we stay is ample green space for the dogs to relieve themselves. Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Inn Alexandria had a designated pet-relief area with waste bags and a waste bin located behind the property.

After checking in and settling, we drove the short distance to Old Town Alexandria for dinner and drinks. Old Town is extremely dog-friendly! Most restaurants and many shops welcome well-behaved dogs.

We dined at Brut Champagne & Wine Bar and spent the rest of our evening walking down King Street to the Waterfront Park. We listened to live music and enjoyed the views across the Potomac River.

After an action-packed evening, we headed back to our room, popped some popcorn (courtesy of our preferred room welcome kit) and snuggled up to watch a movie with the dogs.

Overall, we had a great experience at Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Inn Alexandria. The staff was friendly, our room was quiet and clean, and the property was prime for numerous sites in the area.

When searching for a pet-friendly hotel for a road trip or other domestic travel, at the very least, we want to make sure that the hotel is clean, safe and the pet fee isn’t astronomical. Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Inn Alexandria checked all our boxes and more.
