9 Dog-Friendly Pumpkin Patches Near Washington, D.C.

The best places in the Washington, D.C. area to pick your pumpkins with your pooch.

Where can I pick pumpkins with my dog near Washington, D.C.? Where can I find a dog-friendly pumpkin patch in the D.C. area? Are dogs allowed in pumpkin patches?

These were questions we found ourselves asking and Googling a few years ago when we tried to find a dog-friendly apple orchard or dog-friendly pumpkin patch in Northern Virginia.

It’s that time of the year again to break out your sweaters, pull out your boots and transition from sweat teas and iced coffees to hot pumpkin spice lattes.  

If you want to go beyond Lowes, Home Depot or the grocery store, we found nine pumpkin patches that are dog-friendly near the District.

Before we share our list, I wanted to add a disclaimer: you do not need to take your dog everywhere with you. If your dog is not well-behaved or suffers from anxiety, please leave your pup at home. The pictures for the ‘gram are not worth your dogs’ stress. I’m sure they will thank you.

Also, as a friendly reminder, many of these pick-your-own farms, orchards and gardens are working farms with working animals. Because of this, they do not allow pets to visit. We’ve linked information on each location’s rules and policies. Rules and policies are always subject to change. If you have any questions or concerns, be sure to contact the business before bringing your dog to pick pumpkins with you. 

Stribling Orchard

Stribling invites you to enjoy a day in the country at their orchard. Bring a picnic and enjoy the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Though their apple season is beginning to wind down, Stribling Orchard is open 9 to 5 for picking apples and pumpkins. Ground apples are perfect for cooking, making cider, apples and more! Stop by the bakery for apple pies, breads, kettle corn, caramel apples, cider and ice cream.

“Dogs must be leashed and are not allowed inside the sales building. Additionally, we are not responsible should something happen to your dog (there are lots of cars around) or should your dog harm anyone.” 

Sharp’s at Waterford

Pick your own pumpkins at Sharp’s at Waterford!. No tickets are necessary to visit Sharp’s, nor is there a parking fee. Instead, head over to their website for the most up-to-date information on events and fall festivities.

Great Country Farms

Great Country Farms is a 400-acre working farm situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside the village of Bluemont, VA. Great Country Farms offers pick-your-own produce as well as the farm experience to its customers.

“Dogs are welcome to join your family on the farm, please keep on a leash. For health and safety reasons they are not permitted in the U-pick fields. Feel free to take Fido on the wagon ride and then have a family member or friend hold the leash by the wagon while you are picking. Please clean up after your dog. Yes, on a leash please. For health and safety reasons they are not permitted in the fields. Be sure your dog is comfortable with crowds and children if you are coming on a festival day. We do ask that you clean up after your pet in all areas of the farm.”

Pro tip: Grab a container of their apple cider donuts. They are amazing!

Marker-Miller Orchards

Purchase a container, go out to pick-your-own produce (check for availability throughout the season), or relax while sitting on the front porch in our rocking chairs and enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery. Consider packing a lunch or purchasing food from the market and enjoy it at one of the many picnic tables.

“Dogs are not allowed inside the market, but are welcome on the rest of the property. Please make sure they are on a leash at all times and provide cleanup when needed.”

Mackintosh Fruit Farm

“Please have your dog on a leash as not all of our customers are dog lovers. And, of course, you do have to pick up their poo. Bring your own bags; we have trash cans in the market. While the dogs can come with you to the farm, they cannot be in the area with you when picking ground crops – strawberries, garden vegetables, and pumpkins. Please leave them at home if you are picking these items or bring a friend to keep the dog out of the picking area. Thank you for your understanding.”

Hollin Farms

Hollin Farms is right next to Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier County, VA. They specialize in a variety of pick-your-own fruits and vegetables to include apples, pears and pumpkins! You can pick your own pumpkins or grab a few from their already-picked pile.

Councell Farms

“Councell Farms is fun for humans and animals alike! We do allow family friendly breeds, on a leash. We ask that you pick up anything they leave behind and they do not show any signs of aggression or barking.”

Snead’s Asparagus Farm

Snead’s Farm is a sustainable family farm located about 11 miles from Fredericksburg, in Caroline County, VA. They are known for our spring asparagus, fall pumpkins, and Christmas trees.
